ZX has co-founded several successful start-ups: Astronergy, one of the largest vertically integrated solar energy generators; Ariel Technologies, which merged with Intematix Corp, a LED lighting company; AmpNova, application of battery management and logistics technologies to last-mile delivery vehicles; and PrimeNano Inc., an nano-imaging and sensor company.
ZX is a Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Stanford University and is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences. ZX’s work on materials physics has been widely recognized by numerous awards, including the Einstein Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; the E.O. Lawrence Award from Department of Energy; and the Oliver E. Buckley Prize, the premier condensed matter prize of the American Physical Society. ZX’s work has been featured on the covers of numerous professional journals and in the popular media, including the ABC Evening News, the Washington Post and National Public Radio.
ZX served as the inaugural Director of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences. He led the Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials at Stanford University. He currently serves as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Max Planck Institute of Germany and the Institute for Energy Internet of Tsinghua University of China.
ZX earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University. He obtained his MS from Rutgers University and his BS from Fudan University. ZX is the co-inventor of numerous patents and a senior fellow at the Precourt Institute for Energy at Stanford University.
