ZX leverages his experience as a mentor, researcher, manager and entrepreneur to help bring new technologies to market. He has co-founded several successful start-ups: Astronergy Inc, one of the largest vertically integrated solar energy generators; and PrimeNano Inc., a nano-imaging and sensor company.
ZX is a Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Stanford University and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. ZX’s work on materials physics has been widely recognized by numerous awards, including the Einstein Professorship from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; the E.O. Lawrence Award from Department of Energy; and the Oliver E. Buckley Prize, the premier condensed matter prize of the American Physical Society. ZX’s work has been featured on the covers of numerous professional journals and in the popular media, including the ABC Evening News, the Washington Post and National Public Radio.
ZX has a passion for developing people, ideas, innovations and organizations. ZX served as the inaugural Director of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences. He led the Geballe Laboratory for Advanced Materials at Stanford University. He currently serves as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Knight-Hennessey Scholars program at Stanford University and the Max Planck Institute of Germany.
ZX earned his Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University. He obtained his MS from Rutgers University and his BS from Fudan University.
